So here’s a little something for your January outfit fatigue, something that (for me) sparks a little joy in getting dressed and perfectly suits those of you hibernating as well : The Ski Sweater. Whether you’re active or apres, the ski sweater is the answer to the latter half of winter blues. We’re all coming out of the haze of chic cocktail outfits and sparkly accents and kitten heels… so in a complete 180 it feels only natural to swing the pendulum towards comfort and nostalgia for this time of year, towards something familiar. I was even out and about at a local vintage shop today and felt myself gravitating towards all things ski-wear adjacent.
I think my favorite thing about this sort of style is that it can be so accessible, shop it second hand, shop your closet, or shop your mom and dads closet for some great “vintage” pieces they’ve held on to, the more nostalgic the better!
I’m not sure about you all, but this time in January is when I start day dreaming for things to look forward to, a little bit of winter escapism. Sometimes that thing to look forward to is take out and a movie on a Saturday night and sometimes it’s a weekend away in the mountains. We’re going on a trip to Colorado at the end of the month so you can see where my brain is at right now. My winter escapism involves a sauna, a cold hike, comfort food, and a big cozy sweater at all times. I wanted to bring you all in on my escapism as well with a little feature on the big cozy sweater I’m referring to and the power it can have on your wardrobe this time of year!
A little moment for the wallabies + fair isle sock combo please.
I loved that outfit because it felt particularly vintage inspired, something adjacent to what Bridgette Bardot would wear on the slopes!
And for a close but different option:
I mean!!!
This might turn in to a newsletter about how fair isle socks can make everything cuter…
…or an article about how these Ann Mashburn “Lara Pants” are the perfect piece to a winterized casual look- see below too!
I love playing with pops of color from under shirts- it’s an unexpected way to add a little oomf with color or texture contrast. The color combo of red and that pear(?) green are so visually pleasing to me (and hopefully you) that I had to do another twist on the colors with jeans too.
The above feels like something not far removed from last weeks 2025 mood board I put together, the perfect outfit to Apres Ski with a good book and hot cup of tea.
One more time for the fair isle socks and that awesome shade of pear (?) green! I had a walking date with a good friend yesterday and still wanted to feel cute and cozy so what better way than with a bug chunky quarter zip and my favorite new socks.
Now on the flip side of leaning in to active wear, I’ve decided to take a few of my ski sweaters up a notch for something more work or dinner appropriate.
For this little cardigan I’ve loved styling a blouse underneath of it that has a more delicate collar to pop out of it. That extra layering piece just makes it look a little more finished and adds a touch of personal style.
If you’ve been reading Nice Outfit! at all beyond this one newsletter, ten you know I love to create a juxtaposition within my outfits. I love the delicate lace in contrast to the chunky, wool fair isle sweater- it’s the perfect contrast to wear out to dinner with friends or on a cute date night.
Now for the finale I give you this Tory Burch turtleneck that, if you recall, was in my fall window shopping newsletter. It made its way into my closet! The more I’ve worn it and looked at it the more it resembles something from vintage ski style photographs. All I’m missing is a furry hat. All fo that aside, i wanted to style it in a way that was city and work approved. So for time off the mountains, I loved putting it with these khaki culottes and tall boots.
I hope many of you are reading this from your cozy couch with a warm cup of something and a candle burning so you can get in the true spirit of my ode to nostalgic sweaters. I loved putting this together because I think that the ski sweater can have such range in styling and the right one can even hold some great memories. Have fun styling yours!
Cheers xx,
Taylor
