Dispatch From The Fitting Room
I went to NYC, I saw many fitting rooms, and I came back ready with a fall mood board.
It’s really unfathomable to me that that is the second week in September and we are only a few weeks away from the actual seasonal shift in to fall! Where did the time go? I swear I was just getting excited about the pools opening on Memorial day weekend and now we hd to say farewell to our favorite public pool (Piedmont park pool if your familiar) for the season. Over the last few years of living in Atlanta this has marked the true end of summer for me, now my off-days are filled with non sunbathing related activities- its a total mental shift!
I do credit the time going by a bit fast for me, due to the fact that we waited to take our big vacation/time-off clump at the end of August this year. My husband and his close friend both turned 30 and we decided to do a friend group trip to New York City to celebrate since we are all clothes horses and love being city kids for a weekend. The trip had an itinerary because there was laundry list of places we all wanted to go! Most importantly we had a lot of ground we wanted to cover in the shopping department.
I love trying things on in stores while I’m on vacation because I am a “vacation person” in that moment. I’m playing dress up and day dreaming about actually frequenting these places like I would if I lived there- it’s fun! Also, it’s New York. Every brand and store imaginable is there and it would be a waste to not make the most of it and inspire myself with some educated browsing and trying on.
Sandy Liang I’ll take one of everything! It was fun seeing all of the color ways and fabrics I’ve been eyeing for fall come to life in these brand collections. Sandy Liang definitely uses the browns and butter yellows and rich navy’s that are everywhere this season.

See Below for fabulous vintage american work wear and victorian french blouses, courtesy of my new favorite- Francois at the Chelsea Flea Market! Not a brick and mortar, but inspiring nonetheless. It’s so cool to see what people took the time to sort through, hunt down, and curate in order to share it with us!

And on the opposite spectrum I gave you… the Printemps department store!

And in the world of visual merchandising and excellent spaces there is Bode on Canal St. While I did try on the most incredible, and heavy, suede jacket, I was a little too shy to snap a selfie! This wall color and coat rack display still evoke a lot of feelings for me though in the way of color combinations.
We had ourselves a time at the Alex Mill in Soho! I was very into the chorejacket styling and left feeling inspired for my own fall outerwear. They also win best fitting room lighting (Sandy Liang you are a close second)

And finishing with a couple window shopping moments on the Upper East Side, I give you a denim try on in Still Here and the clutching of a clutch at Khaite!
Seeing, touching, and trying on everything made me so inspired! It was good to go and be a shopper and take in the experience of being in a store, especially in New York where all of the fall collections were starting to find their way on to the stores racks.
We left the city and spent another four nights just decompressing in the Catskills. It gave me time to process the city and take an honest brain break. It’s so important for me to have space like that to be re-inspired and escape my very insular day-to-day life. I was able to take in nature and romanticize life a little bit.
All that to say, I felt ready to put together my mood board for fall. This is where I am at style-wise for the season, the colors I am building on in my wardrobe, and the layering I can’t wait to partake in!
I’m looking forward to doing a deeper dive on the mood board in the coming weeks, but for now its a great jumping off point for the season.
Don’t forget to go play dress-up in some fitting rooms soon :)
Cheers,
xx Taylor
