A season for simplicity

Theres something about fall that makes me want to shed a little bit of the mix n match vibrancy of my summer self and streamline my entire wardrobe into something simple and utterly chic. I think it’s a representation my desire to want to shed my last season self and move forward fresh and new.. and simplified. I think a lot of that feeling came through in my “window shopping” newsletter last week as well- all fo the cozy fabrics and familiar silhouettes I’m craving.

It’s a season for reading books on cloudy days, hot coffee, rewatching gilmore girls and pride and prejudice, and (in my case) listening to Nick Drake on repeat and taking in his acoustic mellow music. These things are all very familiar and comfortable, each evoking a little nostalgia as well. I think that all of that has seeped into the part of my brain that thinks about clothing as well. I want my wardrobe to be a reflection of my longing for a familiar, comforting, nostalgic season!

As far as finding inspiration for the season, I think that no one better embodies it than Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Have you looked up her old street style photos? If not- I highly recommend, you can also find her on any almost any mood board or style collage I’ve posted in Nice Outfit! Besides just the nostalgic reference of CBK, there are so many great references to a simple (not boring) moment for street style! Currently I find Jennifer Lawrence’s NYC street style to be SO good, so much so that a few of her outfits live rent free in my brain. For me, its about the easy silhouettes and subtle pop of a color- not too overt, but also not so plain to look like a pile of oatmeal. None of it looks like it takes itself too seriously, theres an ode to tailoring but not serious or starched. I think for me the whole point of being drawn to this sort of style is that it’s a lived-in chicness, nothing too precious, but the style carries a sense of aspiration!

Its a Meg Ryan-CBK-Gone West-Practical Magic fall for me
