A Micro Dose of Fall Outfits
When my heart says "fair isle", but the weather says "flip flops"
Let’s all be real here, this time of year we’re all kind of looking around trying to figure out what’s seasonally acceptable to wear. Caught in the limbo of seeing beautiful cashmeres and coats marketed to us, but knowing it will be 80 degrees by noon. It leads to a real “what do I wear” conundrum, because in at least my heart of hearts, I want to be totally decked out in all things fall! While I wish I could manifest my way to colder weather, it’s September in Georgia and definitely still warm. This brings me to my topic: what the heck are we wearing right now?! I’ve been trying to marry a little summer and fall into all of my outfits and embrace this fleeting in-between time, even if I want to jump head first in to a pile of over-sized fisherman sweaters.
A red cardigan that’s single handily making more excited about getting dressed…per my last newsletter, I’m jazzed about the red/brown color combos to come this fall *swoon*
See below for a very honest “wear it now!” version with all white. It is also makes for a great friendship cardigan to match in with your pal.
Moving on to a navy cardigan… I think cotton cardigans are my outfit meal ticket right now. They scratch the itch for wearing something “fall-esque”, but are still wearable when it’s 80ish degrees.
I also would like to note that the khaki colored skirt really bring an early fall feel, it’s not as crisp and summery as white and feels perfectly transitional. See skirt above and light trench coat below!
Another key element I’ve found to my fall style micro-docking has been texture. Denim! Oxford Cloth! Suede Boots! Leather! They bring the perfect weight to an outfit that otherwise might feel a little summer, or even just simple. I’ve been also adding in jewelry on leather cords, like the necklace above. I made this one myself, but there are so many cute options out there from Etsy to Net-a-porter, depending on how nice you want to go, but they’re a great small dose of texture to an outfit.
Little accessories really have been the easiest way for me to transition some of my outfits though- a sweater over my shoulders and black leather shoes, as seen below, feel very “fall coded” without being too obvious.
Aside from he woes of “what can I wear that makes sense right now?!”, I’m taking each day as it comes- no need to rush summer along too much! There’s going to be plenty of fall ahead of us, and in the meantime I encourage you all (and myself) to embrace the fun in-between of getting dressed right now!
Cheers,
xx Taylor
